Right now I'm vacationing along the Cote d'Azur, otherwise known as the French Riviera, after a whirlwind two weeks of research in Paris for my gothic contemporary. Let me tell you, the life of a writer is such hard work! Well, my accomodations at the Majestic Barriere in Cannes is always spectacular, especially when it's not film festival season! As I wait for my Cosmopolitan I've decided to turn this blogfest into a Q&A with the help of my amazingly talented Personal Assistant Extraordinaire, Thaddeus Brighton. He has agreed to play interviewer for the day and will even assist me in thinking up a suitable contest question for those who are eager to win a copy of SUNSET KEY!
Oh, Oh..I must chime in before we get started! I have recently received the most wonderful first book review through Romance Divas! Smoochies Trula for the 5 Kisses!
Take it away Thaddeus!
TB: Well, well...this is going to be fabu-lous! I thought I'd start off with the usual boring questions and roll on into the tough, cutting edge ones. I do watch enough Oprah to know how this whole interviewing thing works. You think that's OK, Cassidy?
Cassidy: Sure, dahling. Oooh, wait..here comes my Cosmo. Ahhhh, it's so refreshing after sitting under the hot sun for so long. Alright, I'm ready now.
TB: First off, what is your novella SUNSET KEY about?
Cassidy Kent: Freesia Daniels, personnel specialist and consummate planner, wasn't prepared to get the boot from her company for possessing a heart. When she decides to return home from Boston to the sunny beaches of Key West to lick her wounds, she discovers her heartbroken past has finally caught up with her in the form of Zachary Gray, her childhood sweetheart. He lures her to his island getaway and lands them smack in the middle of a raging hurricane. Lightning doesn't often strike twice, but this storm might give them both a second chance at love.
TB: What was your inspiration in writing SUNSET KEY?
Cassidy: I've been to Key West many times throughout my life and there is something magical there. I can't definitively explain it, but it's a place where you can hideaway from the world and enjoy the rich history of the island. I have fond memories of Key West sunsets, strolling down Old Town lane, and inhaling the sweet scent of jasmine. The water is so crisp and clear and being a snorkeling and scuba enthusiast, I really enjoy the underwater explorations. Just thinking about the Keys makes me want to hop a plane back there.
TB: So, is Zachary based on a real person?
Cassidy: I don't usually base my heroes on any one person. Either they're totally fictitious or a combination of more than one people I've had the privileged of knowing. But with every story, you can't help but throw in a personal experience in it. Zachary Gray happens to have a few similarities to my childhood sweetheart and it seemed right to add those characteristics to him for this story.
TB: What is your writing preparation like before you start on your stories?
Cassidy: Being a daughter of an ambassador and living the "jet-setting" lifestyle, it's easy for me to think up stories. Believe me, I had plenty of time to make up fairytales and fully develop ideas in my head. I'm an idea girl and stories tend to flow out without much effort when I write. I'm not saying I don't ever get stuck. I do. When that happens I research and it gets me back into the frame of mind again. I can admit I'm a bit of a panster. However, the last few projects I've learned to do a full outline and synopsis and it just clicks. Everything is in place and I just follow it all the way to the end. It's so much quicker and well defined. I hate to admit that this method works when I've gone on so long without doing this.
TB: What's your writing day like?
Cassidy: I'm a morning person... you should know that! Er, Tad usually brings me my latte and we have breakfast together. Then, we'll brainstorm a bit and I pretty much lock myself in my office until he reminds me to eat or answer calls. Some days we go on errands and other days when I'm itching to get away, we tend to pack up and take a researching trip. It all works out and it keeps me sane. For the most part, a writer's life isn't so glamourous. I tend to get so immersed in my work I forget to have a social life.
TB: What are your upcoming releases and current projects?
Cassidy: I have a novella coming out June 11th with Amber Quill Press called SANTA'S HELPER. I'm working on a single title gothic contemporary called PARISIAN SKYE and then I'll work on a project for the SAMBA contest for Phaze. I have a few projects in the pipeline at various stages and I can't wait to finish them all. It's true what they say, there's so little time to do everything!
TB: What do you love most about writing?
Cassidy: I'm such a romantic at heart! I love sharing stories that touch the reader, that creates a believable relationship, that makes you want the story to go on and on once you've reached the last page. You might think I'm silly, but whenever I finish a project I can't seem to shake off the emotions right away because the story is so real to me. It's a great feeling knowing that you put all your effort into making the emotions alive for the reader. Or, I hope the reader will feel that way. LOL
TB: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Cassidy: Still traveling, enjoying life and sipping lattes. But what I'd really like to see is my name in print. Isn't that what all author's aspire to? Yes, I'd love to be picked up by a NY publisher! Of course, I love e-publishing too! I think I'd still continue to write stories for this format because it's the only place that allows you to reach a wide audience internationally and easily. I love the fact that once my e-book is released, with a click of the mouse, someone in Asia, Europe, Canada, etc. would be able to read my story almost immediately. It's totally brilliant!
TB: How about we do a contest for your readers?
Cassidy: Sounds great! What have you got up your sleeve?
TB: Maybe they can guess what your pet is? I know you're trying to keep her out of the limelight, but it would be so much fun!
Cassidy: No, no. I think it's a grand idea! OK, if you'd like to be eligible to win a copy of SUNSET KEY, you can post your answers here. Now, if you are shy and want to be discrete, please email CassidyKent@gmail.com and let me know what your guess is. Also, please let me know if you'd like to receive my newsletter! Oh, this has been so much fun! What an absolutely delightful audience!
TB: Yes, it certainly has been fun. Maybe we ought to go do some sightseeing? It does look as if you're getting a tad crisper than you wanted...
Cassidy: Eek! I totally forgot the sunscreen. Hand me the other Cosmo, dear. Well, this has been an absolute pleasure taking over the Phaze blog. I'll be sure to come back later in the day to check in and post again!

In a nutshell, the character Ruby (the fortune teller from both stories) will play a more significant role in the last story. You'll see Jack and Lars, but not in so prominent a capacity. There is the possibility of introducing a new character named Jack for the sake of title continuity.
So my choices for the third story are narrowed to
- Jack of Clubs
- Jack of Spades
- Queen of Hearts
- The Joker
This excerpt of Jack of Diamonds is copyrighted 2006 Leigh Ellwood.
Argent gathered as much, watching her.
The thin seconds hand of the large, sunburst clock situated over the parlor's mantel ticked blandly past the hour. Seven o'clock, closing time, and she hadn't moved an inch to begin her closing ritual. From his point of vigil, Argent saw the gypsy still sitting in her plush, wingback chair, legs crossed and back straight, idly shuffling her tarot cards. Her vacant stare was cast downward, as if disappointed not to find an escape hatch etched somewhere in the floorboards.
He watched the lovely black woman with the tightly coiled hair and long, red fingernails, impressed with her intuition. He had misjudged her after all this time, thinking her a charlatan, no better than any of her televised, toll-free counterparts.
This woman was not a fraud. This woman knew she was going to die tonight.
That established, Argent felt a bit disappointed himself with the woman's complacency. He had hoped for more emotion—fear, anger, a mad rush for the door and an attempted escape into the night. She would be caught, of course; wily as she seemed, she was no match for his power. Nothing like wrangling with a fiesty victim to stir the beast within, he mused with a smile that exposed his elongated fangs. The mere thought of her writhing in his grip, those lovely breasts shifting underneath her low-necked blouse, caused his cock to twitch.
In the time he'd been casing her home, from where she dispensed her predictions, Argent noticed she took no lovers. How exciting it would be not only to end her life, but to be her last fuck.
Sorry, got a little carried away there. That song has been playing like mad since Jack of Diamonds was released earlier this week. I'm very happy to finally see the story surface with the other Surges. For a story that almost never happened, it has received some wonderful feedback. Thank you, readers, for encouraging the story.
Was it a Halloween trick...or a romantic treat? When Jack Thurmond realizes he is the reincarnation of an 18th-century heiress, he sets off to claim the vampire who loved her...the vampire Jack thought only existed as the passionate lover in his dreams.
Having accepted that his beloved Lila is now a 21st century man, Lars is ready to look past Jack's gender to see the gentle soul that kept his hopes alive for centuries. Their reunion is as electric as the storms raging through Paris, but will outside forces separate them once again...this time for good?
Jack of Diamonds is one of eight in the 2006 Phaze Surge line, the only story to feature both M/M erotic romance and scenes of interracial romance. It is truly a well-rounded story, hope you enjoy it. Don't forget, too, to witness the story from the beginning with Jack of Hearts.
About The Cards Trilogy
Late Summer of 2005 brought from Phaze a call for submissions for a Halloween themed Heatsheet. The Shivers were to be a collection of sensuous thrillers, horror tales, or erotic paranormals. Being new to paranormal stories, I knew I wanted to try my hand at this line. I'd had in mind a reincarnation story, and a vampire story, and decided to take the best of both ideas to create one, called Jack of Hearts. The story was published as part of the Shivers in 2005 and remains the top seller of all six published.
I've been very pleased with the response to Jack of Hearts, from reviewers and readers. I am aware, too, that people have been asking if the story will continue, if Lars and Jack will have their happy ever after. Not to give too much away, but the story ended with some ambivalance, in a manner I liked and readers liked, though it would appear the readers liked the characters so much they were not ready to leave them. As a writer, I can only feel complimented by this notion.
I had not considered a sequel before, I have reversed my original decision and decided to try at least one follow-up to the original story. The result is Jack of Diamonds the next story chronicling the adventures of Lars and Jack. This story is one of eight stories in Phaze's Surge line, again the only story to feature M/M romance. Jack of Diamonds continues the story of Lars and Jack, and also touches more on the lovely medium Ruby, who knack for foretelling the future will help another character in Diamonds, in a work that will finish the series, called...?
We had a great time taking over for a day and I'm very happy at all the response. But I must admit to being a little short on banter at the moment...the last part of the day was pretty full for me, with homework needing to be done early in preparation for my kids open house at school and all.
I will say that I had a talk this afternoon with an old friend who went and put another "I told you so" potential comment on me after listening to me react to some of the comments that have been made both privately and publicly over these last few weeks from acceptance to publishing date. The last time she did that to me was about the fact that I was going to end up published. Well, she won that one. I suspect she'll win this one too.
Please, do enter our little contest. I want to see a wide variety of possible choices from the winners. Especially because anyone who wins and doesn't pick a certain prize is going to have me wondering if that's because they already own a set...

On the W coast (that's for "W"est and for "W"ill), it's still early. I'm sure my partner will be back for some more banter. He got a knack for it, after all.
Don't forget about our contest as it gets bumped further down the page! You've got a whole week to read Switch and send us your answers.
Peace & Passion,
So far we have some contest entries, but certainly we want more. I am very pleased at the response we have gotten so far, and I can only hope that the review sites like our work half as much as some of you do.
I want to make it clear that we are accepting entries through next week. This was not a "First person with the correct answers" thing, but an "everybody who answers correctly gets a chance" thing. So, if you don't get the questions answered until later tonight or even later in the week, don't figure that you missed your chance.
I would like to give something to everyone that answers correctly, even if you don't win the drawing. But budget constraints are very real. Is there anyone out there with a suggestion for me? Should I write a flash piece that is exclusive for this? Something like that?
And no... I am not cutting up my jeans and sending out the pieces...anyone want to tell me how I would explain that one to the wife?
Announcing a great reason to buy Switch, the new Phaze HeatSheet from the twisted minds of Alessia Brio and Will Belegon! A reason in addition to the fact that if you don't buy it, you'll probably waste the time randomly clicking through MySpace pages about people you never wanted to get to know anyway. A reason in addition to the fact that it only costs $2. Face it; there are so many less interesting ways to spend two bucks!
What can you get for $2 anyway? Okay, you could get a box of Pop Tarts if you catch them on sale, and Pop Tarts can be pretty good, especially the brown sugar ones on a morning after... *ahem* But after you eat them, they're gone forever. Then all you have left for your money is the FDA nutritional information on the box. That's a pretty boring read. Even the tabloid drama of Britney and Kevin is more interesting than... Okay. Maybe not. But Switch is WAY sexier then Britney-Kevin or even Pop Tarts.
Switch continues the erotic adventures of Bruce & Mandy from Alessia Brio's Erotique. If you've read Erotique, you know that these two should be ready for almost anything, but in Switch even they are caught by surprise. It's not necessary to have read Erotique to understand and enjoy Switch. This story stands on it's own. But if you have already read it, you'll get a couple of extra laughs--and if you haven't, you'll certainly want to after reading Switch. (Erotique is yet another $2 bargain!)
So, what's this great reason to plunk down $2 and read our new HeatSheet? A contest! Yes, a contest blatantly copied from fellow Phaze author Jessie Verino. (We mention that because our lawyer said she probably wouldn't sue us if we gave her a free plug. Our lawyer said he was going to make sure of it, but we haven't heard from him in weeks. His machine said something about a chance to go hunting with the Vice President and that was the last contact.)
Anyway, here's what you gotta do... First, read the story. You can buy it by clicking on the banner above, and... Oh, wait. Okay, starting over. First, click on the banner above and use your credit card to buy Switch. (If you don't have a credit card, we'd be happy to accept payment via PayPal & handle the transaction for you, attaching your purchase to a return e-mail. Just drop Alessia an e-mail and we'll go from there!) Second, read the story. Third, answer the questions below. Fourth, e-mail your answers to Alessia or Will. Last, check out Will's Yahoo!Group on Saturday, May 6th (when we'll announce the winner).
Prize: The winner will have the choice of ONE of the following:
- A Phaze mug or mouse pad
Shipped directly to the winner from Phaze's CafePress shop
- A pair of vibrating nipple clamps
Shipped directly (and discreetly) to the winner from the vendor.
- A Coming Together multi-volume CD
Contains 38 erotic short stories and 34 poems, many accompanied by original illustrations. This autographed CD features volumes 1-2 plus the special hurricane relief edition in PDF format. (Adobe Reader also included.)
- What will Bruce accept in lieu of his attorney fee?
- What does Bruce use to keep the grapes from rolling off Mandy's body?
- What does Mandy tell Bruce to stop playing with?
- What did Bruce & Mandy find "better post-coitus"?
- What do "so many cultures" associate with storms?
- To what was Bruce referring in his last line of dialog in Switch?
- From what type of stone was Erotique's Italian Renaissance diletto (dildo) carved?
Responses should be e-mailed to either Will or Alessia no later than Friday May 5, 2006 @ midnight Eastern (9pm Pacific). The winner will be announced on Saturday May 6, 2006 on Will's Yahoo!Group. Subscribe by visiting http://groups.yahoo.com/group/willbelegon.

Marsh is a very odd guy. Hes very dominant, and trust me, this story didnt even touch on what hes all about, just gave you a small glimpse of his life. Hes really complex, and we are hoping to get him to talk about some other things. Truth is, Janey is the most important thing in his life. So hopefully, for those of you that like him, youll get to see some new stuff from him in the future, though i do know both him and Janey make some surprise guest spots in a few other stories.
So I know you guys will have questions for our Djinn, maybe even Janey. Hell, Marsh lives with me and I have questions and I get to talk to him any time I want. So we have a surprise for you. we have a Forum site Called Residents of the Eververse where you can sign up, go to Marsh's forum and ask him all the questions your heart desires! He responds quickly.
Also,we have a Contest going for a free book. How do you win? its simple. Just go to the Phaze Forum and sign up, then go to our forum (Stella and Audra Price)and go to the Polls thread. Vote in the poll and then comment. its that simple. We will pull the name of the winner on Friday.
So what else about Wishes? Well its our first published work ever. We are just stoked for that. And Phaze is beyond fabulous to their authors, so we are doubly tickled to be part of everything going on here. So lets see... Wishes... Wishes.... So heres the blurby from the Phaze store:
When Nicodemus Marsh is contracted by Sean Taylor, a business man and exiled demon to look after his interests involving Janey Duvall’s Company by keeping the busty beauty in control, he never thought he’d fall for the girl he was supposed to make fall for him. The major problem? Marsh is a Djinn, a major race of genie, and a genie grants three wishes. He’s met his match in the woman he’s sent to break, and while she’s occupied with his body and his actions, will she see past the cosmetic to make the one wish that will keep her by his side for all time?
See? your intrested now arent you? So what are you waiting for? Pick it up and join the main contest and you could win a great piece of jewelry, or some other fun prizes (you'll learn soon enough that Audra and I love to give away goodies.)
More to come throughout the day.
Ignoring the fickleness of spring temperatures, Crystal sent out a few promos saying that I'd talk about how I got the idea for Spring Storm. In a word: desperation. The original story that I had thought to do didn't work out. I had two weeks left to turn in a story. Brainstorming session needed. Hmm, new website with a decided Celtic theme, long time interest in mythology (though my strength is Greco-Roman), who was the Celtic god of lightning? As it was late at night and I didn't have my reference collection easily on hand, I did a quick internet search. While he's more like Hermes than Zeus, the Celtic god Lugh is loosely associated with lightning. This is fiction, I decided to run with it ;)
Now, how to run with this bit? Well, about a week or so before, I'd been looking at a book in my library's collection that was about Irish surnames. Why not an ancient Irish curse on a family? And so my story was born.
The women in Gwyn Murphy's family have known nothing but sorrow when it comes to men. Her grandmother has constantly told her that the only thing a man is good for is as a sperm donor. Gwyn's never forgotten that her mother always looked for the best in people, especially men, before her death. Yeah, Gwyn's father left when she was nothing more than a baby, but Gwyn's mom made sure she understood that not everyone was like that.
Aiden Loughlin always laughed when his dad said that he'd know when he found his soul mate. He soon realizes his dad didn't even come close to telling him the truth.
And that's my Surge! You can purchase it here or check out my website for more information. Be sure to take a look at the other Surges too :) Being punny for a moment: they're electric ;) Yes, I have a weird sense of humor.

Release Day was a blast! I spent most of the day letting all my friends and family know. Then I updated my website, www.jessieverino.com, and walked around with a silly grin on my face. Oh, and I simply refused to wash dishes.
Now, as Maureen McGovern so beautifully sang, "There's got to be a morning after." (Can't get the song out of my head since I saw the preview for the 3rd, that I know of, release of The Poseidon Adventure, or simply Poseidon, as they're touting it now. But I digress.
Sensual Energy is the story of a reluctant marathon runner, Jake, and a dedicated paramedic, Amy.
I'll let you in on all the juicy little secrets of the story. I grew up surrounded by electricians, literally. In fact, I'm married to a journeyman wireman, (one of those muscly construction guys). So, when the call came out for the Surge line, and they wanted stories with "actual amperage," I was ecstatic. Then my surge fizzled. The story I'd originally started went flat, and it was back to the drawing board.
To tell you the truth, there aren't that many juicy little secrets to tell. No big what if, just me lying in bed at 2:00 a.m. wondering how in the heck I could use electricity in an erotic story that wasn't the same old lightning strike that transported some hapless heroine to a different time period. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I enjoy those stories immensely, but I wanted something - different. I thought and thought about what in the world could produce enough electricity to cause a truly traumatic event without killing anyone. To that end, my twisted little mind came up with the premise for the story.
Not the most romantic of devices, but hey, it was 2:00 a.m.
And, I started off by killing my hero. Sort of. Mostly. Let's just say it's a good thing my heroine, a paramedic, was close by.
Sparks definitely fly as our hero and heroine become trapped in a time shift and charged with Sensual Energy.

The first 5 people that come back with the correct answers get a free copy of 101 Degrees Fahrenheit, and the first one back gets an extra something special, a fun little bag I put together from Pure Romance. So, are you ready to Google?
Here we go!

9. What were the first cock rings made of?
History, we can confidently assert, is useful in the sense that art and music, poetry and flowers, religion and philosophy are useful. Without it -- as with these -- life would be poorer and meaner; without it we should be denied some of those intellectual and moral experiences which give meaning and richness to life. Surely it is no accident that the study of history has been the solace of many of the noblest minds of every generation.- Henry Steele Commager
10. When did the first dildo come about?
So, there you go. I hope you have a blast hunting. You can e-mail me your answers in the body of the e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. In the meantime, I'll be back a little later to tell you a bit about myself and answer any questions you may have.

(my other post from yesterday)
I just updated my website to reflect the new release. Trying to think of something cool to do in conjunction with all the new stuff going on. Anyone have any ideas? :)
(Yesterday when I was supposed to post, I inadvertently was writing to my own blog. Please forgive the mix-up if you were looking for me... I am re-posting my posts from yesterday here in the correct place.)
This is my first entry on this blog, so I hope it is correct and coherent. :) (Too bad it wasn't....)
I am very pleased to have Anything But Anderson's come out from Phaze. These stories were my first real entry into the erotica genre. Originally, they came out separately from Afternoon Delights Books, but when that company folded, Phaze gave them new life as one title. Phaze was my first choice for these stories when it came time to look for a new home, and I am glad that it proved a good fit.
Ribald romps through long ago and far away, "The Gilded Girdle" and "Three Wishes" take place in the mythical kingdom of Hardcoreia, where clothing is made to be discarded, and sex is the order of the day.
They were a lot of fun to write. The driving premise was "what can top this?" How can I be even more over the top? I think the results turned out very nicely. If there is something you wish to know more about, let me know. :)
Happy to be Phazed,
