My favourite scary book is The Shining, by Stephen King. I usually go for straight horror, but the occasional mystery or thriller is good, too.

Just recently read The Madman's Daughter, not so much scary as spine tingling but really, really enjoyable.

One of my favorite's is Stephen King's Salem's Lot, even though I don't usually read straight-up horror. I'm more of a paranormal, sci-fi, dark or urban fantasy kind of gal.

Paranormal or sci-fi, definitely. Horror tends to not keep my mind engaged while reading. The two stories that pop to mind when thinking about scary are The Cask of Amontillado by Poe and Kafka's Metamorphosis. (you can email me through my blogger profile)
